Feed Handlers & Ticker Plants: The Mechanics
The Mechanics of TPS+Plus
The mechanics couldn’t be simpler: rather than having the data traversing multiple networks, data centers and servers before it ever reaches you, take it direct from the exchange. Our ticker plant technology takes it from there, normalizes the data, maintains a real-time cache so that information is available on demand to your applications, and publishes the updates as soon as they are received. All of our components have been designed around two fundamental objectives: low latency and high reliability. We live by this principle because what good is low latency if the data is unreliable? Our system achieves the delivery of reliable data with the lowest latency and highest throughput of any system available. With mandates such as RegNMS and requirements for full depth of book data, latency is meaningless without reliability! The result is that an InfoDyne ticker plant adds less than 1.5 milliseconds of latency from the time an update is received until it reaches your application, along with one of the highest degrees of reliability seen in our industry (see Test Results).

InfoDyne's TPS+Plus: Ticker Plant Solution includes exchange servers, distribution components, and development toolkits. These components can be used collectively as a complete system solution, or individually to augment the functionality of current customer systems. A Ticker Plant will typically include:
  • A number of exchange server instances processing direct national or international exchange feeds, feeds from ECNs, proprietary feeds, and consolidated feeds. The exchange server itself is modular: it consists of a feed handler that implements the protocol for an individual feed and normalizes the data into a common data model, and a common server platform that supports all the feed handlers. The common server platform maintains an in-memory cache of all instruments and manages communication with distribution components and all downstream applications. One of the benefits of this modular design is that it lets us implement support for new feeds very rapidly – often in as little as 3 weeks – since there is a high degree of re-use.
  • Middleware2: InfoDyne servers give you a choice: our own Middleware², Reuters Triarch/RMDS, TIB MDS, TIBCO Rendezvous, and TIBCO SmartSockets. Moreover, these can be used in combination: a single ticker plant can simultaneously integrate with multiple distribution environments. InfoDyne's own distribution components – what we call Middleware² - are designed around the needs of trading applications, with the two primary design goals of low latency and high reliability. InfoDyne Middleware2 outperforms all other vendor products in terms of data latency, provides seamless fail-over to a redundant system or to a disaster recovery location, and provides enterprise support to all Ticker Plant applications.
  • Some number of customer client applications, including legacy vendor applications. Customer applications access the ticker plant directly using one of the InfoDyne APIs (available for C++ and COM, Java) and/or via their existing market data system.
  • Some number of customer server applications designed to integrate value-added customer information to the Ticker Plant via the same interfaces.
Through this technology, we are committed to maintaining system performance, including sub-millisecond latency, despite an ever-increasing volume of data. We achieve this in the following ways: by implementing extremely efficient software, taking full advantage of multi-threaded multi-processor environments, and using a modular architecture that allows us to increase data capacity by adding additional hardware, network and software components. All this, while maintaining reliable data delivery through to the customer’s application.

InfoDyne's TPS+Plus: Ticker Plant Solution forms a reliable, scalable, and fully integrated system capable of supporting additional customer Ticker Plant functionality. It has been proven to far out-perform consolidated vendor feeds, is measurably faster, and significantly more reliable. Furthermore, InfoDyne prides itself on being responsive to customer needs. We frequently enhance our products based on customer feedback and can customize the products to suit special needs.
